Menura is a lyrebird living in Australia that can imitate everything it hears and therefore has one of the most complex voices in the animal world. The birds even “sample” sounds from their surroundings to create their own melodies. So it had to be the name of our audio manufactory, which focuses on innovation, the joy of experimentation, flexibility and the assembly of professional-grade, high-quality components for your individual modular experience.  

It all started because three guys from Bochum and Berlin couldn’t find a mixer suiting all of their needs. Our developer Jasper repaired and built his own modular synthesizers, while dreaming of a DJ mixer you could use likewise: Just plug and unplug different sections of your mixer as you like, having one case and no more worries about hard, final decisions. Inspired by the freedom and versatility of analog synthesizers as well as eurorack systems, Jasper didn’t need much more to convince Vincent to work as strategist and Roger as logistics expert. We envisioned a DJ mixer that would break free from the constraints of single-product designs, allowing you to unleash your full creative potential. We believe that the MDMX embodies this vision, bridging the gap between the worlds of DJ mixers and modular systems.

After a lot of development starting 2021, testing first prototypes and getting feedback from our community, we launched a Kickstarter Campaign in May 2023. A few challenges such a large project entails later and thanks to our backers, we were able to go into production with the final MDMX last winter and present the first modular mixer to the rest of the world in August 2024. The MDMX is a fully analog, customizable mixer – with options for digital modules – which adapts to your ever-changing musical preferences and styles. 

We are constantly working on new modules, listening to what our community needs and prefers. Up to now, we have our Menura Standard Modules for each section with a Rotary or Linear option in the Mixer section, but also a Bluetooth function and Eurorack features. To stay true to our namesake bird, we’ve dedicated an entire modular series to the legendary 1620 mixer, capturing and imitating the rich, warm sound which shaped the 70s and 80s disco era starting in New York. This nostalgic variant pays homage to the golden era of DJing while providing the modern benefits of modularity. And the development goes on… As your musical journey evolves, so does your MDMX. The modular design makes it easy to swap out modules whenever you like.

While form follows function, we still want you to design the mixer for yourself as much as possible, so we also have various module colors on request as well as different side panels. And remember: This is just the beginning! We hope to enrich the modular world with our and your ideas for the best possible experience – for DJs as well as for their audience.
